OCP announces 2010 grants to US parishes for music, liturgy projects

Published:

PORTLAND, Ore. (CNS) -- OCP, a nonprofit publisher of liturgical music and worship resources based in Portland, has announced a new round of parish grants that brings to more than $1 million what the organization has given out since the program began in 2001. This year 76 parishes will share more than $135,000. Grant money must be used for purposes linked to liturgy and/or music. Such uses have included building or improving a parish's multicultural ministries; purchasing or repairing musical instruments and equipment; attending or hosting music/liturgy conferences or workshops; paying for facility maintenance and improvements; buying music, hymnals and other worship materials; and providing online tools and other electronic resources in support of liturgy preparation. "One of our company's core principles is service to the church," said John Limb, publisher. "We are blessed to be able to give back to worship communities dedicated to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ." Worship programs produced by OCP are used in two-thirds of Catholic churches in the United States and are distributed worldwide. Parishes in every diocese in the country have benefited from its grant program. One of this year's recipients, Corpus Christi Catholic Community in Fruitland, Idaho, plans to use the funds to build up its Hispanic music program, said Father Calvin Blankinship, pastor.
