Editor of Catholic Explorer in Joliet Diocese to retire

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (CNS) -- Mary Breslin, editor and general manager of the Catholic Explorer since June 1, 1998, will retire from the Joliet diocesan newspaper March 21. "It has been my privilege to serve the Diocese of Joliet as the editor and general manager of the Explorer for the past 10 years," Breslin said in a Feb. 22 statement. "I am especially blessed to have been associated with the staff -- an extraordinarily talented, dedicated team of professionals." During her tenure as editor, Breslin launched among other things a youth page with weekly columns written by representatives of the eight Catholic high schools in the diocese, an Explorer Web site, regular legislative updates and an analysis of issues that impact Catholics. She wrote weekly commentaries and since March 2007 has done weekly book reviews. She said she and the staff made it their mission to cover the stories of the people making news across the seven counties of the diocese.
