Mass for readers' intentions marks Catholic Press Month in Metuchen

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (CNS) -- A Mass was celebrated for the intentions of readers of The Catholic Spirit, the newspaper of the Diocese of Metuchen, and to mark Catholic Press Month, observed every February. "We are one with them in offering their joys and sorrows to the Lord," said Father Sylvester Cronin, who celebrated the Feb. 13 Mass, which was attended by members of the newspaper's staff and diocesan employees in the chapel of the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center in Piscataway. The Catholic Spirit received more than 100 intentions from readers since announcements for the Mass began appearing in the newspaper in January. A basket holding the intentions was placed next to the altar during the Mass. In his homily Father Cronin, who is executive director of the diocesan Department of Stewardship and Development, said that "one of the greatest gifts" of the Mass is that people "come together as the entire Catholic community throughout the world and we offer all of our praise and worship at the altar to the almighty God in Jesus."
