ALEXANDRIA, Va. (CNS) -- The Alexandria-based Combat Veterans of Iwo Jima organization will hold its annual reunion and historical seminar in Washington Feb. 15-17. Participants will include veterans, historians and military leaders from all over the country. "The reunion will not only shed new light on a notably historic event. It will also ensure a broader understanding of this epic battle," said Maj. Gen Fred Haynes, president of the Combat Veterans of Iwo Jima and author of the soon-to-be released book "We Walk by Faith." Spokesman Cyril O'Brien, a member of Our Lady of Grace Parish in Silver Spring, Md., said the group of veterans from all branches of the service meets every year, and that this year seminar participants will include students from a Washington Catholic school, St. John's College High School, and St. Albans Episcopal High School. Seminar events will include a panel discussion with Haynes and Larry Smith, former editor of Parade magazine and author of a new book on Iowa Jima. Participants also will take a tour of the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico.
