NORWICH, Conn. (CNS) -- Retired Bishop Daniel A. Hart of Norwich, who headed the diocese from 1995 to 2003, died Jan. 14 at St. Joseph Living Center in Windham after a six-month illness. He was 80 years old. The bishop's body was to lie at rest Jan. 17 at St. Patrick Cathedral, with an evening memorial Mass to be celebrated by Norwich Bishop Michael R. Cote. A funeral Mass was to be celebrated Jan. 18, followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Hartford Archbishop Henry J. Mansell was scheduled to be the principal celebrant of the Mass. "The two words that keep coming to mind as I think of Bishop Hart are kindness and service," Bishop Cote said in a Jan. 14 statement. "This was Bishop Hart. This was his nature. Bishop Hart lived these words. It was always amazing to me to witness his incredible attention to the sick and those in need. He had the true heart of a pastor," he added.
