Michigan bishop urges Catholics to increase evangelization efforts
Published: 2008-01-10
SAGINAW, Mich. (CNS) -- Saginaw Bishop Robert J. Carlson urged Catholics to "stop conforming to the world, and start transforming it" in a Jan. 6 pastoral letter on evangelization. "It's time for a new springtime of evangelization in the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw," he said. Bishop Carlson, head of the diocese since 2005, is known across the country for his work with youth programs and vocations. In his letter, he said he did not have a specific evangelization plan in mind, just a desire that Catholics speak up about their faith and invite others to go to church or simply to discuss their faith experiences. "We don't need a magic formula for evangelization," he said, adding that Catholics instead should let God "use our words and deeds to knock at the door of people's hearts."
