Tranquil nature of Maryland's Eastern Shore caught in Lorsung's book

Published: 2007-12-19

WILMINGTON, Del. (CNS) -- A blue heron, recognizable in silhouette, stands reflected in still water. Around the bird, marsh grasses poke through the surface in thin black strokes, resembling the Chinese characters often found on Asian silk-scroll paintings. That tranquil image, however, is a photograph not from the Far East but from Maryland's Eastern Shore. It's one of many striking scenes in "Wings, Water and Waning Light: Images from the Eastern Shore," a new book of photography and reflections by Tom Lorsung. The 47-page, spiral-bound, soft-cover book, published by R&R Associates of Columbia, Md., grew out of Lorsung's retirement pastime, photographing the natural beauty surrounding his second home on a cove of the Choptank River. Lorsung retired four years ago as director and editor in chief of Catholic News Service in Washington. The book costs $25 plus shipping. It can be purchased online at lorsungarts.com or by phoning R&R Associates at (800) 598-7693.
