Published: 2007-12-07
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (CNS) -- Bishop William F. Murphy of Rockville Centre underwent surgery Dec. 6 to remove two disks that had been pressing on a nerve and limiting the use of his right arm. A statement from the diocese said the surgery, formally known as an anterior cervical discectomy, was successful and that the bishop was recovering at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre. Bishop Murphy "expects to make a full recovery following several days of post-surgical recuperation in the hospital and a regimen of physical therapy," the diocese said. During the bishop's recovery, Msgr. Robert Brennan, vicar general, "will provide day-to-day governance" of the Rockville Centre Diocese, the statement said.
