Longtime CNS staffer named head of bishops' new digital media office

Published: 2007-11-06

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Joseph Larson, manager of operations and business for Catholic News Service in Washington, has been named the director of digital media for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The appointment was effective Nov. 1. The Digital Media Office is a new office at the USCCB. It will include communication efforts on the Internet, as well as radio and television productions. In the past, much of the radio and television programming was funded and implemented through the bishops' Catholic Communication Campaign. "Joe's technical expertise and his vision on how to use new media technology to disseminate the church's message will be a tremendous asset to the bishops," Msgr. David J. Malloy, USCCB general secretary, said in a Nov. 1 announcement on Larson's appointment. Larson joined the CNS staff in 1987. The international news service is used by almost every English-language Catholic publication in the world.
