Mongolian parish's boarding program aims to help youths foster faith

ULAN BATOR, Mongolia (CNS) -- A parish in Mongolia has set up a special boarding program to help a dozen young men foster their faith in a country where the Catholic Church is as young as some of the youths. Father Stephen Kim, head of St. Mary Parish in Ulan Bator, told UCA News, an Asian church news agency, the program aims to help the young men experience Jesus. "We want to try this way for these boys so that they attend Mass every day, pray every day -- especially the rosary -- study hard, and live a good and orderly life," the South Korean missionary said. "They are from homes where the parents are not Christians and children are not always supervised to do their studies or have the right friends," he said. The 12 boarders, ages 14-23, began staying at the parish Sept. 26, but continue to attend their respective schools.
