Published: 2007-08-14

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (CNS) -- Catholic Charities USA has announced the recipients of its 2007 Family Strengthening Awards, a tribute to organizations that take a holistic approach to providing services to families "by supporting healthy family relationships, working to improve a family's overall financial situation, and enhancing the community where the families live." The awards will go to El Programa Hispano in Gresham, Ore., the Office of Economic Opportunity in Murphy, N.C., the Southside Family Center in Hartford, Conn., and the Thorpe Family Residences in the Bronx section of New York. "These four programs are the brightest stars in a constellation of outstanding Catholic Charities programs working to strengthen families," Father Larry Snyder, president of Catholic Charities USA, said in a statement. The four winners, chosen from more than 40 nominees, will each receive a $25,000 award and will be formally honored at Catholic Charities USA's annual gathering in Cincinnati Sept. 16.
