Published: 2007-07-06
COLUMBUS, Ohio (CNS) -- The Pontifical College Josephinum, the only pontifical seminary in North America, has announced the establishment of the Institute for the Formation and Ministry of the Permanent Diaconate at its campus in Columbus. Father Christopher J. Schreck was named the founding executive director of the institute. Ordained in 1977 for the Diocese of Savannah, Ga., Father Schreck served as vice rector of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia from 2002 to 2004 and since then has been distinguished professor of sacred Scripture there. His programs and retreats for deacons have been popular for many years. The Josephinum also will introduce a distance-learning program in September, which was developed in cooperation with the National Association of Diaconate Directors. It is intended exclusively for deacons, emphasizing the core ministries of the diaconate.
