Dominican sister marks her 80th year in order

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (CNS) -- Frances Prusevicz wanted to be a Dominican nun, but she wasn't sure she'd make it. She was, in her own words, too much of a tomboy. Her parents, Frank and Magdalene, weren't sure she'd make it either. Frances, after all, was young and had just finished the eighth grade. None of them should have worried. On June 10, Sister Rosalita Prusevicz marked her 80th year as a Grand Rapids Dominican. Her parents told her, "If you want to go, you're awfully young, but if you want to go, go and try it. If you don't like it, you can come back," she said. "But I never did." She entered the order at age 15 and a year later took her vows. She finished high school at Marywood, taking correspondence courses from Western Michigan University. She went on to get a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in theology from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. Sister Rosalita then taught at several different schools. That career came to an end in 1977, after 42 years in education. Now her days are filled with prayer, meals and rest.
