New anthology of Catholic praise music hits store shelves
Published:
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (CNS) -- A two-CD set of contemporary Catholic music has been released featuring the contributions of 32 performers. "Catholic Music 2007: Illuminating the Darkness" was created by Gary Gersin of Cleveland and Mike Beloud of Los Angeles. One CD is music for worship and the other is praise songs, Gersin said. The worship CD features prayerful and meditative songs. The praise CD contains songs with a more modern, upbeat tone. The set resembles the popular "WOW" Christian music CDs released annually since 1995. "WOW" was the first recording put together by three major Christian record companies. Those releases include gospel music, children's songs and popular Christian music hits. A priest of the Diocese of Sioux City, Father David Hemann, is among artists featured on the Catholic music CD. It was released by Spirit Wing Records, whose Web address is www.spiritwingrecords.com, on Nov. 22, the feast of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians.
