Youths urge peers to work for peace in churches, temples, mosques
Published: 2006-11-09
VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Religious young people from around the world urged their peers to work for peace not only in political arenas but also in their churches, temples and mosques. At the end of their Nov. 4-8 interreligious meeting in Assisi, Italy, and at the Vatican, the 90 participants published a message "from the youth, to the youth." The meeting, sponsored by the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, brought together young people from 29 countries representing not only Christians, Muslims and Jews, but also Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Taoists, Zoroastrians and other religious traditions. The gathering marked the 20th anniversary of Pope John Paul II's Assisi convocation of religious leaders to pray and dialogue for peace.
