FORT WORTH, Texas (CNS) -- During its annual convention, the Canon Law Society of America elected a priest of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, La., as the new vice president and president-elect and gave the society's Role of Law Award to the chancellor of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The convention was held Oct. 9-12 in Fort Worth. Father Paul Counce, judicial vicar and vice chancellor of the Baton Rouge Diocese, will serve as vice president of the canonists' society until the conclusion of next year's convention, when he will assume the presidency. Barbara Anne Cusack, the chancellor and director of administrative services for the Milwaukee Archdiocese, was the fourth woman to receive the Role of Law Award. It has been given annually since 1973 to a canonist who embodies a pastoral attitude, is committed to research and study, participates in the development of law, and facilitates the interchange of ideas within society and among other groups.
