WASHINGTON (CNS) -- A Texas bishop, a university president and a software entrepreneur were among the winners of this year's St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Awards from the National Catholic Educational Association. The Seton awards recognize organizations and individuals who have made significant contributions to education in America and to Catholic schools in particular. This year's winners, honored Oct. 2 at a dinner in Washington, were: Bishop Curtis J. Guillory of Beaumont, Texas; Vincentian Father David M. O'Connell, president of The Catholic University of America in Washington; Thomas Joseph Clements, a software entrepreneur who founded Southern Catholic College in Dawsonville, Ga.; John and Rosemary Croghan, key supporters of the Archdiocese of Chicago's inner-city schools through the Big Shoulders Fund program; and John and Susan Morrison, supporters of the University of St. Thomas and many other Catholic organizations in the St. Paul and Minneapolis area. In addition, Sister Clare Fitzgerald, a School Sister of Notre Dame and a longtime educator in New England, received the 2006 St. Elizabeth Ann Seton President's Award.
