MIDDLESEX, N.J. (CNS) -- Men and women attending the Metuchen Diocese's annual Blue Mass were reminded that they not only serve their brothers and sisters in Christ but they themselves are brothers and sisters in Christ. Celebrating the Blue Mass Sept. 26 at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church in Middlesex, Bishop Paul G. Bootkoski of Metuchen urged members of law enforcement to reach out to each other in times of distress. The bishop was joined by pastor Father Patrick J. Kuffner, vicars general Msgr. William Benwell and Msgr. John B. Szymanski, and a dozen priests and deacons, many of whom serve as police department chaplains. Members of law enforcement from police departments throughout the diocese and New Jersey, including the Rutgers University Police and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, attended the Blue Mass, which honors them and remembers their fallen brethren.
