Published: 2006-08-24
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (CNS) -- Led by Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, a standing-room-only crowd burst into applause Aug. 22 as three newly ordained auxiliary bishops for the diocese processed around Our Lady of Angels Church in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn and administered their first episcopal blessings. More than 1,300 people, including at least 300 members of the local clergy, attended the episcopal ordination of Auxiliary Bishops Guy A. Sansaricq, Octavio Cisneros and Frank J. Caggiano. Bishop DiMarzio was the main consecrator while retired Bishop Thomas V. Daily of Brooklyn and Auxiliary Bishop Ignatius A. Catanello of Brooklyn were co-consecrators. In attendance were four cardinals -- Edward M. Egan of New York; Sean P. O'Malley of Boston; Theodore E. McCarrick, retired archbishop of Washington; and Oscar A. Rodriguez Maradiaga of Tegucigalpa, Honduras -- and 48 bishops, including four from Haiti, the birthplace of Bishop Sansaricq.
