Published: 2006-07-31
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- The Washington-based U.S. Catholic Mission Association is marking its 25th anniversary as a membership organization. Its mission is "to unite and support people committed to the cross-cultural and global mission of Jesus Christ in service to the church and world," an announcement said. It added that "integrated in this mission" are: "proclamation," or evangelization; "social transformation," or justice and peace; and "witness, dialogue, and spirituality/prayer." The association traces its roots to 1949 when it was the Mission Secretariat of the U.S. bishops. Twelve years later it became the U.S. Catholic Mission Council, and in 1981 it became a membership organization. The association's annual conference will held Oct. 1-3 at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
