DAYTON, Ohio (CNS) -- WCVB-TV in Needham, Mass., outside Boston, and KNOM-AM in Nome, Alaska, were chosen as repeat winners in the TV and radio "station of the year" categories, respectively, in the 2006 Gabriel Awards. It was the 15th such honor for WCVB and the 14th for KNOM in the 41-year history of the awards. The full slate of Gabriel winners will be honored Oct. 20 in Hollywood. The recipient of a personal achievement award will be named before the ceremony. The Gabriels are sponsored by the Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals, honoring those who make films and TV and radio programs as well as features and spot announcements that serve viewers and listeners through the positive, creative treatment of human concerns. "WCVB's long-standing commitment to its community emanates from its ownership and senior management throughout its total staff and operation," said a statement from Frank Morock, chair of the Gabriels' judging committee. KNOM serves one of North America's most remote regions, providing information, education and public service programming to the native peoples who live in small villages in the area.
