Father Keating new head of Atlanta province of Marists

Published: 2006-07-20

MUNDELEIN, Ill. (CNS) -- Marist Father Ted Keating was installed as provincial of the Atlanta province of the Marist Fathers and Brothers during a June 23 ceremony in Mundelein. For the past year, Father Keating has been working with Marist candidates as the formation director for the Atlanta province. The 64-year-old priest, a Chicago native who was ordained in 1985, was executive director of the Conference of Major Superiors of Men from 1999-2005. During his leadership the clergy sexual abuse crisis was a major issue and Father Keating was a leading voice in seeking reform of policies on behalf religious communities. CMSM's "Instruments of Hope and Healing" project -- calling for religious orders to meet standards, undergo independent accreditation and agree to deal compassionately with victims -- was instituted under Father Keating's tenure.
