What I Have Seen and Heard - Archbishop Gregory's Weekly Column

Web sites work to make googling for God easier

Published: 2006-07-19

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- In this age of information, efforts abound to make religious communities around the country more technologically savvy. These days there is so much religious information that it can be overwhelming, said Edward J. Murray, CEO of Faith & Values Media, the nation's largest coalition of faith groups dedicated to media production, distribution and promotion. Faith & Values Media uses the Internet, television and other media to promote the vitality of religious experience in everyday life and to celebrate religious diversity, according to its Web site. Print and video material is gathered from a number of Web sites, including Catholic sites, Murray said. If one enters "religion" in Google, the popular online search engine, a number of resources will appear. The challenge is deciphering what is trustworthy and what is false information, Murray said in a phone interview with Catholic News Service.
