BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (CNS) -- Every reader of a daily or weekly newspaper in Connecticut's Fairfield County got a special invitation from the Diocese of Bridgeport during the week of June 26. More than 400,000 copies of a booklet declaring that "the Catholic Church welcomes you!" were distributed in all the county's newspapers, including the Greenwich Time, The Advocate in Stamford, The Hour in Norwalk, the News-Times in Danbury, the Connecticut Post in Bridgeport, The New York Times, The Newtown Bee, the Fairfield Citizen-News, and the Hersam-Acorn, Hometown and Brooks publications. Six months in preparation, the eight-page booklet contains testimonials from Catholics of varied backgrounds and experiences. They talk about returning to the practice of their faith, finding a parish family, leading others to Christ or fulfilling the Gospel message through service to others in need. "The Catholic Church is a story of ongoing conversion," said Bishop William E. Lori of Bridgeport in the introduction. "Our church is alive with God's goodness and is filled with the holiness of the Lord."
