Pope says he prays for high schoolers preparing for oral exams

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Benedict XVI told Italian high school seniors he was praying for them as they prepare for their last hurdle before graduation: oral exams. Also during his midday Angelus address June 25, the pope encouraged Catholics to pray for their priests and ask God to help them be strong witnesses of God's love. The June 25 feast of the birth of St. John the Baptist and the June 29 feast of Sts. Peter and Paul remind Christians of the essentials of discipleship, he said. John the Baptist's role of preparing the way for Christ "reminds us that our lives are totally and always relative to Christ," whom we must prepare for and welcome, the pope said. "May the example of this great saint's generous and persevering faith inspire each one of us to be steadfast in our Christian life and courageous heralds of the Gospel," he said.
