Bishops review new video on priesthood, priestly vocations

Published: 2006-06-19

LOS ANGELES (CNS) -- The U.S. bishops got a preview of a new 18-minute video on priesthood and priestly vocations during their June 15-17 meeting in Los Angeles. The video, released in DVD format, is titled "Fishers of Men." It was produced by Grassroots Films in New York and issued by the Secretariat for Vocations and Priestly Ministry at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington. The video mixes dramatic imagery of traditional hard, manual labor of fishing with nets with shots of priests in ministry and commentary by several priests about what their priesthood means for them. Bishop Blase J. Cupich of Rapid City, S.D., chairman of the USCCB Committee on Vocations, told the bishops that they could customize the video for their own diocese by inserting local contact information about their own vocations office or vocations director. Copies of the video were sent to all U.S. dioceses earlier this year.
