DENVER (CNS) -- The waiting list continues to grow for a new, privately funded $3 million voucher program that will enable low-income children to attend Catholic schools in the Denver Archdiocese. Within a week after Denver Archbishop Charles J. Chaput announced the voucher program in a press conference June 8 at Presentation of Our Lady School in Denver, the 250 tuition vouchers offered for the upcoming school year were already issued to applicants. The archdiocesan Office of Catholic Schools started a waiting list for additional applicants as further funding was being sought. The initial funding was provided by the Seeds of Hope Charitable Trust. "We want these parents to have an active choice in seeking the best education for their children," Archbishop Chaput said at the press conference.
