Pope names three auxiliary bishops for Brooklyn Diocese
Published: 2006-06-06
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Pope Benedict XVI has named three new auxiliary bishops for the Diocese of Brooklyn, N.Y. They are: Msgr. Octavio Cisneros, 60; Msgr. Guy A. Sansaricq, 71; and Msgr. Frank J. Caggiano, 47. All three are priests of the Brooklyn Diocese and their appointments reflect the diocese's ethnic diversity. Bishop-designate Cisneros was born in Cuba and Bishop-designate Sansaricq was born in Haiti. Bishop-designate Caggiano is the son of Italian immigrants. The appointments were announced in Washington June 6 by Archbishop Pietro Sambi, apostolic nuncio to the United States. Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio plans to ordain the three men to the episcopate Aug. 22 at a site to be determined, said a June 6 statement issued by the Brooklyn Diocese. The ordinations will bring to four the number of active auxiliary bishops in the diocese. The new bishops will join Auxiliary Bishop Ignatius A. Catanello, who is vicar for clergy. Bishop DiMarzio said the main tasks he will assign the new bishops-designate are to improve evangelization and to increase vocations recruitment.
