ATLANTA (CNS) -- Catholic teachers and principals recommitted themselves to their education vocation during a rite at the April 21 closing Mass of the National Catholic Educational Association convention in Atlanta. "Do you promise to live as a child of God the Father, bearing witness to your baptismal vows in your life and in your work as a Catholic educator?" asked retired Archbishop John F. Donoghue of Atlanta, who was the celebrant and homilist of the Mass. "Do you promise to show forth Christ's goodness and compassion with all you meet, remembering that we are followers of the one who came to serve, not to be served?" the archbishop continued. "Do you promise to hand on the Catholic faith with a pure conscience, with trust in the aid of the Holy Spirit who guides the church?" To each question the convention delegates replied, "I do." Archbishop Donoghue afterward asked God to "look upon these educators. Let them strive to share their knowledge with gentle patience and endeavor always to bring the truth to eager minds."
