WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Archbishop Kelvin Felix of Castries, St. Lucia, is doing well after he was attacked with a knife outside the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Castries, a spokesman said. The assailant thrust a knife toward the 73-year-old archbishop April 12, cutting only the first layer of Archbishop Felix's double-layered Roman collar, said Msgr. Patrick Anthony, archdiocesan information officer. Although police have not given official word to the archdiocese on charges filed, Msgr. Anthony told Catholic News Service in an April 18 telephone interview from St. Lucia that the assailant was arrested April 13 and was scheduled to appear before a judge April 18. He added that local media reports said the attacker was being charged with attempted murder. "The country has been the victim of rising criminal activity" in recent years, Msgr. Anthony said. St. Lucia is a Caribbean island nation more than three times the size of Washington, D.C.
