CARACAS, Venezuela (CNS) -- Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino's mother remembers him as a cheerful young man who used to give in to the temptation of chocolate, loved to read adventure books and was the center of attention at parties when he played the guitar and sang Venezuelan songs. "Who would have thought that he would become Venezuela's fifth cardinal?" Ligia Savino de Urosa asked when she learned that Pope Benedict XVI had chosen her son to be a cardinal. The Caracas archbishop was installed in the College of Cardinals at the Vatican March 24. Born in Caracas August 28, 1942, the second of four brothers, Cardinal Urosa graduated from La Salle High School and told his mother that he had decided to enter St. Rose of Lima Seminary in the Venezuelan capital. He was ordained Aug. 15, 1967.
