World's major non-Christian religions have teachings about sports

Published: 2006-02-16

TURIN, Italy (CNS) -- Christians may know that St. Paul often referred to races and competitions, but most of the world's major non-Christian religions also have something to say about the world of sports. For the Winter Olympics, Turin's Olympic interfaith committee produced a 95-page paperback book, "Religions and Sports," to highlight what different theologies have taught about sports and their most important equipment, the body. The book contains commentary by the interfaith committee members and scholars from seven different faith traditions, including Christianity, who took part in a Sept. 21-22 interfaith congress in Turin on "Religions and Sports: Visions of the Body and Sports Practice."
