Published: 2006-01-19
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Timothy Collins was named executive director of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, the domestic anti-poverty agency of the U.S. bishops. Collins had been serving as interim director since the departure of Father Robert Vitillo last February to serve as full-time special adviser on HIV and AIDS to Caritas, the Vatican-based global confederation of national Catholic social service and development organizations. The appointment was announced in Washington by Msgr. William P. Fay, general secretary of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. It took effect in early January. "Tim has been with CCHD since its inception 35 years ago and is widely recognized throughout the church for his long service to the (bishops') conference and the mission of CCHD," Msgr. Fay said in a statement. Collins had served several times as interim executive director following the departure of directors prior to Father Vitillo.
