Published: 2005-12-21
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CNS) -- Catholic Network Florida, the nonprofit organization which represents all seven Catholic Charities agencies in the state, has received a $200,000 grant from Catholic Charities USA to fund a graduate program in long-term disaster recovery management. The grant will enable Catholic Network Florida to work with the College of Social Work at Florida State University in Tallahassee to develop a specialized curriculum in emergency management and disaster recovery. A matching grant of $50,000 has been received from the Governor's Hurricane Recovery Fund. The matching amount will be used to cover student stipends. The curriculum will have a nondegree track that will be available on the Internet and a component on compassion fatigue and critical-incident stress management. The College of Social Work will create the curriculum in cooperation with the university's Reuben Askew School of Public Administration.
