
Vatican foreign minister to travel to Moscow

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- The Vatican's foreign minister, Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo, will travel to Moscow Oct. 26-30 for meetings with government and religious leaders, the Vatican said. The archbishop will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and with the president of the foreign relations committee of the Duma, the Russian parliament, said Passionist Father Ciro Benedettini, a Vatican spokesman. During his visit, Archbishop Lajolo also will meet with Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, the head of external and ecumenical relations for the Russian Orthodox Church, the Vatican said. The archbishop also is expected to participate in the Oct. 28-30 eucharistic congress sponsored by Moscow Catholics to mark the end of the Year of the Eucharist.
