World Communications Day theme focuses on media cooperation
Published: 2005-09-29
VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Benedict XVI has asked the Catholic Church to focus on the media's ability to promote communication and cooperation when it marks World Communications Day in 2006. "The Media: A Network for Communication, Communion and Cooperation" is the theme chosen by the pope, said U.S. Archbishop John P. Foley, president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. The theme, Archbishop Foley said in a Sept. 29 announcement, underlines the pope's "own appreciation of the ability of the communications media not only to make known needed information, but also to promote fruitful cooperation." In most dioceses, World Communications Day 2006 will be celebrated May 28. A papal message on the theme is expected to be published Jan. 24, the feast of St. Francis de Sales, patron saint of writers and journalists.
