Church, synagogue library groups to aid libraries damaged by Katrina

Published: 2005-09-29

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (CNS) -- Three nonprofit U.S. church and synagogue library organizations have set up a relief fund to help rebuild Gulf Coast congregational library ministries damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The organizations are the Catholic Library Association in Pittsfield, the National Church Library Association in Stillwater, Minn., and the Church and Synagogue Library Association in Portland, Ore. Sister Jean R. Bostley, executive director of the Catholic Library Association and a Sister of St. Joseph, said in a press release, "Together we want to do all we can to assist these libraries in recovering." The groups said any church, parish, synagogue, academic or school library damaged by Hurricane Katrina will be eligible for money from the fund, regardless of denomination or affiliation. Donations by check, payable to the Catholic Library Association and noting "Hurricane Katrina" on the memo line, may be sent to: Catholic Library Association, 100 North St., Suite 224, Pittsfield, MA 01201-5109. Credit card donations may be made with the Church and Synagogue Library Association at its toll-free number, (800) 542-2752.
