Grants to rebuild communications available to dioceses hit by Katrina
Published: 2005-09-15
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas of Tucson, Ariz., chairman of the U.S. bishops' Committee on Communications said Sept. 14 that the committee has set aside $500,000 from the Catholic Communication Campaign for grants to help dioceses affected by Hurricane Katrina rebuild their communications ministries. Bishop Kicanas said that as soon as these dioceses are able to assess their communications needs and inform the campaign the committee will handle their grant requests in an expedited fashion. "The CCC is supported by dioceses throughout the United States, and the committee feels an obligation, in return, to be of assistance to the dioceses who have suffered so much damage to their ability to serve their people as they have in the past," Bishop Kicanas said in a statement.
