National office to help relocate religious displaced by Katrina
Published: 2005-09-02
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- The National Religious Retirement Office is serving as a center to help relocate elderly religious men and women displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The retirement office took the action after learning of the "considerable number of religious communities that have been displaced by the hurricane," said Precious Blood Sister Janice Bader, retirement office director and coordinator of the relocation effort. Sister Bader's office, located in Washington, has asked religious communities throughout the United States to let them know if they can house religious displaced by Katrina and to provide information that includes: the number and gender of the people they can house; the level of care, such as assisted living and nursing care, that can be provided; and the length of time the housing can be offered, as the need may exist for months. Religious communities also have been asked to provide information about their members who need housing. Information may be sent to Sister Bader via e-mail at: jbader@usccb.org, or by telephone at: (202) 541-3465.
