Capuchin volunteer corps serves participants socially, spiritually
Published: 2005-07-14
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- The Capuchin Franciscan Volunteer Corps, known as Cap Corps, "gives young people the opportunity to serve a community while also trying to help them grow spiritually," said the organization's director, Capuchin Brother Kip Ledger. Brother Kip, who is finishing his first year as director of the corps, said the program is designed so that each volunteer is placed with a nonprofit organization that meets his or her interests and skills while living in community with the other young people participating in the program. That community then prays and eats together five nights a week. "Our goal is a small faith-based community," he said in an interview with Catholic News Service. "We're looking for someone who wants a spiritual program and wants that community." The corps has two houses -- one in Baltimore and one in Washington -- and has sister programs in Milwaukee and New York.
