London Catholic schoolchildren evacuated to make way for injured
Published: 2005-07-08
LONDON (CNS) -- A Catholic primary school was evacuated within hours of a bomb explosion on a London Underground train in the nearby business district. Emergency services personnel ordered about 200 children, ages 3-10, to leave the English Martyrs Roman Catholic Primary School near the Tower of London July 7. The authorities wanted to use the school, along with two other non-Catholic primary schools, as medical centers to treat victims of the bomb blast near the Liverpool Street Underground station. The children of all three schools were evacuated to Bishop Challoner Catholic Collegiate School, where they remained until they were picked up by their parents.
