Young Catholic philanthropists prepare for future
Published: 2005-07-08
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Two dozen young adults who work or plan to work in the Catholic philanthropic world gathered at Georgetown University July 7-9 for a summer institute of the Future Foundation Leadership Venture. "We're trying to plant some important seeds for the future of our foundations and our church as it looks to the leaders of the future. We have some extraordinary people here," said Francis J. Butler, president of FADICA, in an introductory talk. FADICA -- Foundations and Donors Interested in Catholic Activities -- is the association of Catholic-oriented philanthropic groups that organized the leadership program and the institute. The young people, most in their 20s or 30s, included several leaders in nonprofit organizations that rely on foundations to support their work, but most were members of families that have created philanthropic foundations to benefit Catholic activities.
