Vocation campaign in Britain uses coasters to get men's attention
Published: 2005-06-21
LONDON (CNS) -- The church in England and Wales is hoping to attract young men to the priesthood through an advertising campaign using coasters. The coasters will be distributed in church-run social clubs, university chaplaincies and at youth festivals throughout the summer in the hope young men will respond to a vocation to the priestly life. "They are not for mass circulation in pubs. We are not going to saturate London with them," said Father Paul Embery, the director of the English and Welsh bishops' National Office for Vocation and the man behind the ad campaign. He said the idea for the campaign first came to him during 2002's World Youth Day in Toronto. "We recognized that young people weren't keen on visiting stands and carrying books and brochures around with them," Father Embery said. "We wanted to find a way to attract young people onto the Web site. We saw that the time when people were relaxing at social events was ideal," he said.
