Education, small steps crucial to helping uninsured, speaker says
Published: 2005-06-08
SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- To get health insurance for more Americans, Catholic health care leaders and others must accept incremental steps toward universal coverage, educate more widely about the problem and seek out political candidates who truly make health care a priority of their campaigns. That was the advice offered June 7 by Edward F. Howard, executive vice president of the Alliance for Health Reform, to more than 1,100 participants in the Catholic Health Association's annual assembly, held June 5-8 in San Diego. Howard's Washington-based, nonpartisan organization has been working since 1991 to achieve quality, affordable health care and long-term care for all Americans.
