Two more networks to show condom ads during prime time

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Two more commercial broadcast networks, the WB network and NBC, have agreed to run advertising for condoms during prime time, joining Fox and CBS. "We don't like it," said Msgr. Francis Maniscalco, a spokesman for the U.S. bishops. "In the past, when the networks have run commercials for other forms of birth control, we have written letters to them. We haven't done so in this case, but we may." The WB network and NBC started airing the ads in early June. WB had previously banned such advertising, while NBC had restricted it to after prime time. WB was to air the ads in its second -- and final -- hour of prime time, which is 9-10 p.m. in the Eastern and Pacific time zones. NBC was to air the ads in its third -- and final -- hour of prime time, which is 10-11 p.m. Eastern and Pacific. The advertising campaign was first reported in the New York Post.
