ST. PAUL, Minn. (CNS) -- After serving the U.S. Archdiocese for the Military Services as vicar general for 10 years, Msgr. Aloysius Callaghan will become rector and vice president of the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity of the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul July 1. "I finished a decade, and it's on to a new mystery," Msgr. Callaghan, 58, told The Catholic Spirit, newspaper of the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis. "I'm thrilled about it," he added. "I think the idea of working in formation and helping" Archbishop Harry J. Flynn "to form priests for the new millennium," he said, "is not only exciting but invigorating to me as a priest." The Pennsylvania native will replace Father John Ubel, an archdiocesan priest who has been acting as interim rector of the seminary since Jan. 1. Msgr. Callaghan was ordained 34 years ago for the Diocese of Allentown, Pa. He completed a doctorate in canon law at the Lateran University in Rome in 1977 and then returned to his diocese, where he held positions with the diocesan tribunal, liturgical commission and vocations office.
