
Buffalo, San Diego, Metuchen diocesan newspapers get top CPA honors

ORLANDO, Fla. (CNS) -- The National Catholic Reporter, based in Kansas City, Mo., won the first-place general excellence award for the sixth year in a row in Catholic Press Association judging for national newspapers. Diocesan newspapers winning first-place general excellence awards were Western New York Catholic, Buffalo, N.Y., 40,001-plus circulation; The Southern Cross, San Diego, 17,001-40,000 circulation; and The Catholic Spirit, Metuchen, N.J., circulation up to 17,000. The awards were announced May 27 at the Catholic Media Convocation in Orlando. In the national newspaper category for general excellence, Our Sunday Visitor in Huntington, Ind., and National Catholic Register in North Haven, Conn., tied for second place and The Catholic Register, based in Toronto, took third place.
