WASHINGTON (CNS) -- More than 50 years after leaving Hawaii as a young child, a California priest will return as bishop of the statewide Diocese of Honolulu. Pope Benedict XVI named Father Clarence "Larry" Silva, vicar general of the Diocese of Oakland, Calif., as bishop of Honolulu May 17. The pope also appointed Msgr. Kevin W. Vann, vicar for clergy and pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield, Ill., as coadjutor bishop of Fort Worth, Texas, that day. He will become head of the diocese when Fort Worth Bishop Joseph P. Delaney, 70, retires or dies. The appointments were announced in Washington by Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, apostolic nuncio to the United States.
