Interfaith progress dependent on friendship, 'God Squad' says
Published: 2005-05-16
NEW YORK (CNS) -- Progress in interfaith relations comes not through formal dialogue but through friendship, according to the priest and rabbi who have a joint broadcast and writing ministry as the "God Squad." Msgr. Thomas J. Hartman, outgoing director of Telecare, the television ministry of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, N.Y., and Rabbi Marc Gellman, the spiritual leader of Temple Beth Torah in the Long Island community of Melville, made the keynote presentation May 15 to the Catholic Healthcare Administrative Personnel program in New York. Known as CHAP, the program draws administrators of Catholic hospitals from across the United States and some other countries each May for a weeklong series of lectures held at St. John's University in Queens, with joint sponsorship by the Brooklyn Diocese's hospital program, which is now incorporated into the St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers.
