
Diaconate association presents annual awards in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (CNS) -- Deacon Alfred Mitchell, director for deacon personnel in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, received the William Philbin Award in recognition of his leadership in the quality and growth of the permanent diaconate. Deacon J.S. "Sam" Anzalone, director of deacon formation in the Diocese of Birmingham, Ala., was the 2005 recipient of the Bart O'Leary Award for outstanding service to the National Association of Diaconate Directors. The NADD Award went to Father Patrick Carrion, director of clergy personnel for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and a special association award was presented to Deacon Tim Marcy of the Diocese of Fargo, N.D., for extraordinary mission outreach. The awards were presented during the association's April 13-16 convention in New Orleans.
